WORLD ASTHMA DAY AWARENESS PROGRAM

On the occasion of world asthma day, the students of Laxmi Memorial College of Physiotherapy (LMCP) social welfare committee, organised awareness program on respiratory health in zoo keepers of Pilikula Nisarga Dhama; Vamanjoor, on 2nd May 2023.

Shivakeerthi Bhat the president of students’ council was the host for the day; followed by the brief introduction of the program by the Principal of LMCP, Dr. Sanjay Eapen Samuel.

H. Jayaprakash Bhandari, Director of Pilikula Nisarga Dhama spoke about botanical garden works and the problems that workers face from pollens of acacia trees and the animal fur.

Awareness about the respiratory health was given to the zoo keepers through a power point presentation by Namratha. R, the student of final year BPT, she explained about the causes of allergies in respiratory system and about the reaction of respiratory sensitizers within the body. It also explained about the precautions that has to be taken while handling animals, the medical support available and the physiotherapy treatment which can help in easing the breathing problems.

Physiotherapy aimed at screening the Zoo keepers to examine their lung function with pulmonary function test performed by cardio respiratory post graduates students, Zeeshan Shaikh and Shabnam MV.

The programme was supported and attended by Dr. Sanjay Eapen Samuel, Principal, Dr. Sreejisha PK, Dr. Vishnu K Nair, and social welfare committee.
