RULES & REGULATIONS
GENERAL
- Timing of college to be strictly followed - 9.00 am to 5.00 pm
- All students must be dressed in formal attire while attending the college and in the library, labs, during examinations and formal functions of the college with proper haircut, nails trimmed, no nail paints and men cleanly shaven. Apron and ID card must be compulsorily worn during college hours.
- Students should maintain a good record of attendance and internal assessment. Though 100% attendance is essential, 20% leave is permitted for health reasons or family commitments. 80% attendance needs to be maintained by students for theory, practical and clinical postings to be eligible to appear for university exams. Leave application shall be routed through the respective class co-ordinator to the Principal. Leave sanction is given assuming candidates own risk of shortage in attendance. Any medical / emergency leave DOES NOT compensate for attendance shortage. Three sessional exams are conducted along an academic year; average marks of best 2 shall constitute internal assessment. Parents would be provided with details of attendance and internal assessment periodically.
- Parents’ / students’ communication to the Principal / staff shall be done during college hours only. In case of emergency, for hostelites communication should be routed through warden.
- Mobile phone use is prohibited during college and clinical hours. If found, phones shall be confiscated and returned only at end of academic year.
- Classes/ clinical teaching are conducted at the AJ Towers, Balmatta campus and AJ Institute of Medical Sciences (AJIMS) campus. Students shall maintain proper decorum and etiquette befitting their professional education within the campuses and at all times.
- Ragging in any form is banned inside the campus and hostels. Anti-ragging committee, anti-ragging squad, oversee and take appropriate steps to prevent ragging. Strict action with no leniency- suspension and/or withdrawal from the hostel/ college - shall be taken against persons breaking this rule; the offender may be handed over to police in compliance with the law. Punishment for ragging under the Karnataka education act of 1983 can be up to one year imprisonment; Supreme Court has also defined ragging as a criminal offence.
- It is desirable that students stay in hostels. The college has separate hostels with mess facility for men and women. Hostel facilities include Mess, TV room and reading room, water cooler with aqua guard, electricity backup generator, hot water supply, security. In addition, all students may eat at canteens located in the campuses. The resident hostel wardens and the Chief Warden are responsible for allotment of rooms, discipline, maintenance and any other assistance in boarding facilities.
- For first year students, it is mandatory to reside in the hostels. From II year onwards, students who wish to make their own living arrangements need to submit a consent letter from their parents, and provide their local address, contact number and subsequent changes if any to the college office.
- Smoking/ consumption of intoxicants is prohibited in campus and hostels; offenders will be dealt with severity. Students found guilty may be expelled from the hostel and no refund of rent will be given.
- In case of ill health, students may avail consultation and treatment facilities at AJIMS. They should report to the warden and respective class in-charge and also keep the parents informed; it is advised that one of them is present in the event of hospitalization/any necessitated surgical procedure.
- Students must learn to balance study, rest and other activities. The college encourages students to take part in co-curricular activities and sports; talented students should apply for membership in sports and cultural committees of the college.
- Students are advised to utilize the well stocked library facility in the campus that houses reference books and journals. The library is open from 9.00 a.m. To 7 p.m. on all working days.
CLINICAL POSTINGS

Duty time: For students (UG and PG) at Clinical postings:
Morning session 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
For interns at Clinical postings:
Morning session 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Afternoon session 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Lunch break 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Interns should sign before 9:10 a.m. and 1:40p.m. and sign out at 12:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. - Students should wear their aprons compulsorily and have their own clinical examination kit (hammer, goniometer, inch tape, stethoscope etc.) at clinical postings.
- Maintenance of clinical log book with staff signature on daily basis is mandatory. In case of any indiscipline /malpractice in attendance, strict disciplinary action will be taken.
- Medical certificate should be produced even for a day of sickness leave. In case of unauthorized absence, extension of postings will be applicable.
- Every patient should be re-evaluated preferably everyday at the start of treatment. Treatment record should be maintained and updated with the initials of the staff concerned. Follow –up of patients should be documented.
- PGs and interns are deemed responsible for upkeep of equipments they use. They must maintain proper rapport with patients under their care. Students are encouraged to take initiative to learn local languages to communicate with patients effectively.
- Only 6 casual leaves are permitted with in the period of 180 days of internship. This will not be sanctioned in a block and should be preferably taken as one per month.
- In an event of absence or change of postings, the PG and intern should hand over the responsibility of patients under their care to another PG and intern and inform the respective coordinators.
- Postgraduate students and interns shall work on declared holidays in their respective clinical postings. This attendance will be accounted for in the final tally. No compensatory off will be permitted for such work done.
LIBRARY
- Timings: The library is open from 9.00 a.m. To 7 p.m. on all working days.
- Maintain silence and discipline in the library.

Issue of books: not more than 3 books shall be issued to a student while reading in the library.
Home issue of regular books:, only 2 books at a time, for a maximum period of 1 week. Reference books may be issued for one day only. - Non compliance penalty: Re. 20/- (per day) for regular issue books, Rs.100/- for reference books.
- Magazine and newspapers: only at designated separate reading area in the library.
- Bags shall not be carried into the library.
ATTENDANCE
Students who have shortage of attendance (less than 80%, subject wise) at the end of 2nd term/ as on date shall immediately report to the respective class in-charge and undertake measures to make up for shortage as deemed appropriate by the class in-charge, along the 3rd term. Those failing to meet required attendance by the end of 3rd term shall not be allowed to appear for such subject/s in the University examination.
Internal assessment marks is calculated by averaging the best two out of the three sessional examination marks. Those students who have missed I or II sessional examination are to compulsorily attend the III sessional examination as per schedule so that they obtain deserving internal assessment.
No exceptions shall be entertained for the above.
